What is Antifungal Medication
When fungal infections in the nails become severe, they can cause extensive damage and affect multiple nails. In these cases, traditional paint-on nail liquids may not be effective.
Prescription anti-fungal medication is a systemic treatment option that can be chosen by your podiatrist for the most severe of fungal nail and skin infections.
This type of medication works from the inside out to target and destroy fungal cells, promoting healthy growth and restoring clear, healthy nails and skin.
Your podiatrist can determine if prescription anti-fungal medication is right for you based on the severity of the infection, its duration and other important factors such as your medical history.
Why Patients Choose Pod
The traditional healthcare model for treating fungal nail infections involves multiple appointments with different healthcare providers, including GP'S nurses and pharmacists. This process can be highly inefficient and time-consuming for patients and for the healthcare system as a whole.

Why prescription Anti-fungal medication?
Stronger medication
Prescription anti-fungal medication is stronger and more effective than over-the-counter options and laser alone, which is important when treating long-standing infections, where the nails are severely discoloured, thickened and damaged.
Quicker Results
Prescription anti-fungal medication is the top choice for severe fungal infections where the nails are heavily damaged. It provides faster results than other treatments, which can help you see improvement sooner.
Professional monitoring
Your podiatrist can monitor the effectiveness of the treatment and provide the appropriate follow-up care as needed to ensure you achieve long-lasting results, whilst reducing the the risk of potential side-effects.
Convenient treatment
Prescription anti-fungal medication is far more convenient than having to apply creams and nail paints several times a day for long periods, which can easily be forgotten. Especially for those who have very busy lifestyles.
Dual treatment
Prescription anti-fungal medication is ideal for cases where both the skin and nails are infected, as it will treat any fungus present in the body, nails or scalp, not just in a single area. this means taking one tablet daily, instead of applying 2-3 separate creams and paints.
Prevention measures
Your podiatrist can offer preventative guidance whilst taking prescription anti-fungal medication. Your GP may not provide advice on killing the infection from within your socks and shoes. Choosing a podiatrist for comprehensive care can improve treatment outcomes.
